Objet : [Cherokee Citizen] Cherokee Wannabe

I got a chance to listen to the the presentation during the Sequoyah
Conference held at Northeastern State University. One that was
extremely interesting was the presentation on those people and groups
who claim to be Cherokee tribes or Cherokee by heritage and use this to
scam the everyday person and steal from the Native Americans and
federal government.

I was extremely impressed that the Cherokee Nation, actually the
Cherokee Phoenix as an independent press, is actually taking a stand on
this issue when all of these years the Cherokee Nation's stance has
been to ignore it and hope it would go away. Now we see that the
Cherokee Wannabe's or better yet, the Cherokee wah-na-be tribes, has
flourished in our Cherokee Nation's PR ignorance in addressing the
issue.

None the less, at least the Cherokee Phoenix is reporting on this issue
with their report on the Arts & Crafts act. I hope they report more on
exposing these wannabes as it is sad that people like Murv Jacobs and
Robert Conley win funding and awards on their claims of being Cherokee
when they clearly are not.

I give applause to those on the wannabe task force and for Cara Cowan
Watts for pushing the act and for exposing this critical issue.

Objet : [Cherokee Citizen] New Cherokee web site sucks!

I have been an avid fan of the Cherokee Nation web site,
www.cherokee.org. Over the years it has provided all sorts of cool
internet things such as the online language classes, council meetings
online, the Cherokee National holiday online, interactive language
games but one of the coolest things they had was the mouse over menu,
buttons, and other things that would change the word from English to
Cherokee.

Well my friends, I take it that the Cherokee language is no longer a
priority since the Cherokee Nation web site now is completely English
with a couple of pictures of Cherokee here and there. I take it that
the Cherokee Language is now reduced to only pictures of the language.
How sad. At least they still have the language classes and Ed is a
wonderful teacher.

Another thing, I can't find anything on the web site anymore! I like to
have all of the menu items available which they had with the
collapsible menu. Now you have to click around everywhere to find
something. Didn't anyone tell them that you would turn off all of your
normal visitors if you change up everything? That reminded me of the
old days when word perfect had that cool little shortcut card but every
new version of the software came with a new and different set of
shortcuts. Well this time, Cherokee Nation changed up everything and I
am tired of clicking around and getting lost. They said it was "sleeker
and cleaner" but I say it is not only confusing but boring. Now if they
can just fix the broken links then maybe it will be useful to someone
who has never been to the web site before. For me, I might check back
in another year of so to see if they learned from their mistakes or
improved the site any.

hello,
i totaly agree with you.
i am from the uk, and to be honest, we should be learning off you.
it is scarey when holding on to your birth right and keeping it going strong, then to watch someone crush it down.
we should be earning our trust back to you peoples, not becoming us.
there are lots of us here in the uk that respect and admire you all.
the white man is a very destructive greedy kind of human being, yes i am a white lady, and feel this way.
they have too much power that will destroy us all in the end.
but just because we are differant peoples, we are not all bad.
i totaly understand your frustrations, cherokee and other tribes must come together, and stay as one.
we must honour and respect you, as a lot here do.
never change for any one.
